“Pretty! What is it?” love you to death 2

Good morning! I am recovering from a bit of a Game of Thrones bender last night — so many traumatic images in my mind! effing Lannisters! — but now that Love You to Death — Season 2 has been trickling out into the world ahead of schedule, I thought I best post some pertinent details on it!

So…what is it? After Julie Plec tweeted a pic of the book (yes, I nearly died of joy), I had a few @replies saying, Pretty! What is it?? Good question: it’s an episode-by-episode companion guide to season 2 of The Vampire Diaries. I wrote a book on the first season that includes cast bios and info on the ‘making of’ the show. And season 2’s book has some extras  in there too in addition to the longer, more in-depth episode guide — bios of the guest stars; a chapter on “doppelganger hijinks” in season 2; interviews with fandom leaders Chloe Dawn and Jess and Brannan of Mystic Falls Tours/VampireStalkers.com, Bryton James, and Tiya Sircar; chapters on the movies/books that inspired episode titles; and much more! If you’ve read any of my posts on Vampire-Diaries.net, you’ll be familiar with the basic format — in the book, I talk about those types of things as well as get into history, lore, the music, off camera fun facts, and much more.

Where can I buy it? The usual places! If your local bookstore doesn’t yet have it, I’m sure they’d be happy to order it in for ya. Find your local indie store here. It’s available at Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, ChaptersIndigo.ca and in Chapters/Indigos/Coles across Canada, BarnesandNoble.com, and other places I am forgetting. (More coffee, BRB.)

If you want a signed copy, I can sign books ordered through ECWPress.com/TVD — just add a note in the comments field when ordering that you’d like me to sign it (and to what name) and I’ll get on that. With a silver sharpie. And I’ll probs throw in a postcard too (bonus!).

Win it! There’s a giveaway on Goodreads right now, open til the 25th, for 5 copies. (Contest’s open to US and Canada.) ECW Press will be running a contest at Fan Expo Canada that includes a prize pack of my season 1 and 2 companion books (and I’ll also be doing a signing at their booth — time TBA). And I’ll be joining the ladies of The VRO (time TBA) and they have copies to give away too. A few more giveaways in the works — like on BiteOnThis — so stay tuned to Twitter for details!

Reviews! I love hearing what you guys think of LYtD, which parts are your favorites (and, fine, the bad parts toooo). Most sites let you review — like Amazon, Goodreads, etc, etc — but feel free to comment here on my blog or email me directly (crissycalhoun [at] gmail [dot] com) if you’d rather.

And a big thank you to everyone who’s been tweeting and talking about the book and showing me and Love You to Death s2 so much love. It makes me — literally — dance around my apartment with happiness. <3

  1. The preeminent guide to watching The Vampire Diaries! When I discovered your first book, I could not WAIT for the second. Though not as snarky as twitter or chatroom conversations that ultimately come about during and after an episode where we hash and re-hash what we think is everything, you never fail to deliver! The “devil’s in the details”–I particularly enjoy those fine points that seem to slip by the rest of us…the paintings on the wall (replicas of actual stolen works), the closetful of leather jackets, an ORANGE! I love your analogies and references to classic works of literature and history. They are always spot-on, and frequently things that never occurred to the viewer. The format is perfect–glad you kept it from the first book! The interviews, the timeline, the sidebars (which I cheat and save till last)…your book makes anticipation of the next season a thrill! Love the “previously on” and “compelling moments”…I may not always agree with the most compelling, but you certainly make an excellent case! As a fan of the book series, too, I enjoy seeing the comparisons to Fell’s Church. Really saves me from having to go look them up! p.s. I’m still looking for that geneaology/family tree chart before it turns into a forest! p.p.s I’m posting this review to Goodreads, too, in case you’re not into rereading EVERYTHING like I do!
    Kudos!
